The Story Behind “Angie The Beauty Queen”

Angie The Beauty Queen began during my college years as a simple musical idea inspired by a melody I could hear clearly in my mind but lacked the instrumental ability to fully express. The name “Angie” may have come from an acquaintance I knew at the time, though the song was never intended to portray any specific person. From the beginning, it took on the form of a metaphorical work with a deeper meaning beneath the surface.

For years, the song existed as a single verse and chorus written on a piece of notebook paper. Decades later, I revisited the unfinished idea and added a second verse. Only recently, an ending began to emerge, though completing the third verse proved challenging. Helpful feedback from Claude AI encouraged me to rethink several ideas in that verse and refine its lyrics until they were more consistent with my original vision.

To bring the song to life, I used SUNO to generate audio based on the melody and structure I had carried with me for years. After extensive editing and refinement, the result was a final version that remains remarkably faithful to the song I first imagined decades ago while benefiting from modern creative tools.

The release version is a song that has traveled a long road from its beginnings in a college notebook to the rendition you can now hear. — Dan Parks

Lyrics

All around the tinsel town
she's paintin' red, purple, black and green
yeah, you oughta' hear the people talk
about the mean red letter, you'll never know better

With a tin spray can and her words of choice
She can speak your life in a silent voice
yeah you oughta' hear people makin' noise
about Angie the beauty queen

Angie paint my picture
With your words can you please show me
Angie paint my picture
Look inside and tell me what you see

Well there it was in technicolor
Angie wasn't speakin' of any other
She had bared my soul, warts and all
And it was so witty, but it wasn't pretty

She said, "What you need is my fine airbrush,
you know, not a lie just an artist's touch"
I said, "Cleanin' up this life's too much
For even Angie the Beauty Queen"

Angie paint my picture
With your words can you please show me
Angie paint my picture
Look inside and tell me what you see

[Sax solo, Key change]

Cheers and beers and years gone by
I still knew my biggest problem was me
I met a man from Galilee and he
Said don't just try to do better, stop livin' under the letter

Well he took my life and he made it whole
Now it's taken on a different role
I found the answer that nothing else can bring...
not even Angie The Beauty Queen
